Hi @Bordercollies This is an old example, but has the metal box you describe. Note how I make sure I have a line blast booster ready to use immediately the mesh is gone from the electric block (metal mesh maker block) Please let me know if this helps, or not?

Gold bars can only be replced if you have evidence of buying them. 9 gold missing sounds like you've accidently hit the 'more moves' button at the end of a level as 9 is what that costs. I've done this myself many times 😕 it always happens when the extra moves are no help to pass too!
