Here is South Dakota as in other states in the mid north US we can't start our gardens until after May first. Even at that date you can have snow and freezing Temps. Here are three of our raised garden boxes. On
e has nothing but asparaagus, the other is full of strawberries only. The other one has horseradish, a couple of pepper plants that got shredded by a hail storm. There is radishes. Carrots, and lettuce. In the front is rhubarb that comes back year after year. We have a very short gardening season here due to the weather. Sometimes in June and July our beautiful gardens and crops are totally taken down to the ground by a hail storm. We have so many local farmers that grow gardens. We are able to get the rest of our veggies from them at a reasonable price. For those of you that can have year round gardens, flower and veggies, I'm jelly.

I am posting some pix of my garden. It's not big. There are only three raised beds. One is of asparagus, the other is strawberries, the final is carrots, radishes, lettuce, a couple of pepper plants and some horseradish plants. All around the beds there is rhubarb. Here in South Dakota growing season is very short. You don't plant until after May 1st then the season is over in September. So we take full advantage of the growing season.
