I have mixed feelings about Valentines day, because it reminds me of all the loved ones I have lost in my life. It is a painful time for me.

Hi @PrettyBubbles Sorry I am a bit late on this thread! I sure hope that everyone here and in the Community had a lovely Valentine's Day ! πŸ’–πŸ’πŸ’–

Valentine's Day has never been a big thing for me as this love celebration has not really taken on in my country till the last ten years. And it is commercially very aimed at couples, not towards celebrating friendship and love within families like it is in the US for example; so not really for single people, like me in the last decade

But I thoroughly enjoyed it all through the 7 years I lived in London as a young professional. It was a lot of fun trying to uncover the Secret Valentine(s) who had sent their anonymous card.

And amazingly enough, also in ... Japan! People there enjoy so much any occasion to give presents that they have fully embraced Valentine's Day in all major cities. And yet, as is common in this country, they have set up their own customs for that day: chocolates (lots of it!! πŸ˜‹) are the only acceptable gifts on that day, and are traditionally to be given by women to their significant male relatives and friends.

Men are expected to reciprocate a month later on the 14th of March with gifts roughly two to three times the value of what women had given them.

Thank you for creating the lovely badge @bearwithme

Greetings Fellow Inhabitants of the KINGdom

I am possibly in the minority with this, as I don't give Valentine's Day any energy whatsoever. I don't begrudge others celebrating it, of course, but I don't feel I need a special day to acknowledge my love for the peeps I love. Appreciating our loved ones every day in some small way is my preference. I think I'm influenced by 2 things in particular - my age (shhh, a lady never tells, and you must never ever ask a lady's age, ok?) coupled with my geographical location in the Southern Hemisphere, specifically Australia. Along with Halloween, Valentine's Day just wasn't a 'thing' I've personally grown up with, so I don't invest in either of those celebrations with any conviction. I do, however, have candy and tins of sardines at the ready for those lucky trick or treaters who come knocking on the last day in October - unless I'm out riding around on my broomstick of course.

But to all of you who do cherish 14th February I do hope you had the absolute BEST Valentine's Day filled with love and devotion to the object of your desire.
