Of the many styles I like, Surrealism gets more interesting the more I learn about it. Besides Max Ernst, I prefer some of the lesser knowns, like Victor Brauner.
Most enthralling are several female artists who were part of the original movement, but due to sexism neglected till recently. Like Lee Miller, who started out a model, then Surrealist photographer, and later photojournalist for Vogue magazine during WWII, While involved with the famous Man Ray, she created a method that he still gets credit for! ๐
Also a group of women who fled to Mexico during WWII, the right-knit trio Dorothea Tanning, Leonora Carrington, and one of my top favorite artists Remedios Varo. Their lives were as amazing as their art. The same for a native of Mexico, the great (and fellow leg amputee) Frida Kahlo (who didnโt consider herself a Surrealist, but hung out with the 3 above). All worth looking up to learn about them & see their works of art!
