    It's not my thing

    Hi @Elsa

Unfortunately, it's not my thing. I don't think my country is competing in Winter Olympic but they do take part in Paralympic.

@me6412 the president is not saying that the athletes won't be there.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday announced that US officials will not attend the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The country's athletes will, however, participate in the Games. (Source)

I just looked for another article and some of the countries are joining the USA with a diplomatic boycott (government officials) but I think all the athletes from those countries will be there. (Source)

What do those government officials do anyway?

Yes, I am really looking forward to seeing this and being able to support my country

A majority of governments from the 90 countries participating in the 2022 Beijing winter Olympics have not opted to join a diplomatic boycott of the Games, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said.

The United States, Britain and Australia are among countries that recently announced a diplomatic boycott of the Feb. 4-20 Beijing Games over China's human rights record, a stand that China dismissed as "political posturing".

In the European Union, countries such as France have sought a common EU response but the bloc is torn over whether to join the diplomatic boycott, fearful of Chinese retaliation that would hurt trade.

"There are countries like the United States, Britain and Australia who took that decision," Bach told German broadcaster ZDF late on Tuesday.

"Several other countries, and not only several, if we say there will be 90 National Olympic Committees (NOC) present at the Games, there are most likely more than 70 or even more than 80 NOCs whose governments have not made such statements."

"But they all have one thing in common and that is they support their Olympic teams ... so that their athletes can live their Olympic dreams," Bach said. (Source)ย

Isn't this supposed to be about the athletes and their Olympic dream?

On another note, my favorite winter event is ski jumping.

Kudos to all who love doing it! I wonder how many times they have to practice over and over before they finally land on their feet.

Hi @Elsa Canada is also one of the countries who are boycotting the Olympics, but the athletes are still going with full support as it should be about them and not the politics. They work so hard to get there. I hope they will be able to stay safe from this omicron spreading like wild fire, this new variant has spread fast here, we are in lockdown again.

    My favorite is ice skating

Hi @Nat09 I am friends on Facebook with someone from Montreal and she told me that they now have a curfew 10:00 PM - 5:00 AM. That makes no sense to me! So in other words those vaccinated and unvaccinated can only catch the virus after 10:00 PM so they have to remain indoors at that hour? What is the matter with all these politicians? I shake my head in wonder what happened to the old days when the political figures like President Kennedy were leaders? I can't remember who the Prime Minister was back then when I was growing up but he had to be better than what's going on now. It's Trudeau right or is there a new Prime Minister now?

Your favorite is my second favorite. I love watching both the individual and couples. There have been many talented skaters and I will be watching for the new favorites this year.

Lol, Back then it was Trudeau as well ๐Ÿ˜… Our Prime Minister right now is Justin Trudeau ( he won again but with minority seats in Octobre 2021) and back in the 80โ€™s his father Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister ( he was much better than his son ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚)
