Here's my submission:
Converting the 4 equations using a, b, c, d and using x for the final answer:
a+b+a=21
c+3+c=13
c+d=5+4
a+d=4+9
a+b+c+d=x
Simplifying the equations:
2a+b=21
2c+3=13
c+d=9
a+d=13
a+b+c+d=x
Solving for c:
2c+3=13
-> 2c=10
-> c=5
Solving for d:
c+d=9
-> 5+d=9
-> d=4
Solving for a:
a+d=13
-> a+4=13
-> a=9
Solving for b:
2a+b=21
-> 2*9+b=21
-> 18+b=21
-> b=3
Substituting in all the numbers:
x=a+b+c+d
x=9+3+5+4
x=21
The final answer is 21.
