Here in California it is celebrated as Columbus Day. While esearching some states and cities celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day to acknowledge the mistreatment and enslavement of Indigenous people.

I've always celebrated Columbus Day myself. Political correctness has deemed these current changes

The Taíno Indians were in Puerto Rico before the Spaniard and Columbus invaded the Island. My ties to the Taino Indians comes from my maternal-grandfather’s family. There are still Taino communities in Puerto Rico, some area are open to tourists and some a sacred.

Dear @_Elsa_ it is always great to see you! @rebelchild "Wildchild" thank you for the tag and I see that you know a lot more about your Indian heritage than what I do! I am one 16th Cherokee Indian. As a child I remember my relatives always raving about my high cheek bones and that it was the Cherokee in me.
At Abearica "my house" we do have a cute couple of little teddy bear Indians. They are handmade and my huband "Papa Bear" had to buy both of them for me because you see they are a pair. My husband could not bear to take one and leave the other one behind.
