To add my experience, I have had barely any lives from anyone, no matter whether its team mates or friends for months. I get requests. But barely any lives, even if I am playing the game for hours. The only time i get any is if I send out several requests over and over. Then its very few. Just one here or there. I gave up…

No, it should not turn into a bean unless they are full lives. It might be that it was sent when you were full and its just arrived.
