Did you check the requirements for each tier? They might have lowered them.

Don't do the 2x2 unless you need the fish. They drop to the board like any other booster. The only time you should make the match is on the "hard" boards. The ones that would otherwise block you for days. Also if you are playing on boards with Jelly as the requirement you will likely not see any benefit. Boards without it…

Yup that is where the fish are objectively terrible. They have been tweaking some levels to avoid that kind of stuff but there are likely a ton still where that sort of stuff will happen.
