You can see the electric fish boost active on the opening screen of a level with a timer. It goes off automatically when it is active and you collect all your friends candy. It is not visible at the bottom so it maybe active and you are not aware? Also the time starts when you get it so if you leave the time runs out even tho you are not playing. Right after getting it do you see a timer near the top on the level screen where you select your friend?
