Tiffi has to take a break. It’s a beautiful day outside so maybe she should go for a nice walk outdoors. She is quite surprised to feel the warmth considering that it’s just January, mid-winter. As she gets closer to Chewy’s house she sees him outdoors so she stops to say hello.
“Hi Chewy, what are you up to?” Tiffi asks.
He tells her that he’s just enjoying the warm weather. She agrees with him on that. She tells him all about Rip and how she is helping him. She is so excited and Chewy is very happy for her. Now that’s a good friend! He asks her if she’d like to come inside for a drink and a snack. She thanks him but she really wants to get back home to finish looking up more information that Rip asked his students to do. They promise to get together with the others real soon.
Hugs and kisses goodbye.
At the other end of town, Elsa is still searching for world history. She is just going to read this one more bit of information before closing down her laptop. She feels confident that she found more than enough details for Rip to teach his students.
‘Nov. 9, 1989: The Berlin Wall Falls (Berlin, East and West Germany) - Cracks in the monolithic Soviet bloc are starting to appear in the 1980s, and the very symbol of communist repression comes crashing down in November, when the Berlin Wall is breached, ending a 28-year division of the city. During the day on Nov. 9, a spokesman for East Berlin's Communist Party says starting at midnight that day, citizens of East Germany are free to cross the country's borders. Almost immediately Berliners start slamming the wall with axes and sledgehammers. By nightfall, the celebration turns into what one observer calls "the greatest street party in the history of the world" and the city is reunited. East and West Germany would reunite one year later. ’ (Source)
She remembers when she heard about that on the news but never read how happy the citizens had to be not having that wall anymore. She would have to check with @Spinnifix to ask her what it was like to feel free living in that country. Perhaps there were other players in the community who also live in Germany and remember that moment.
That’s it! She’s done and off goes the computer. She calls Tiffi to let her know that she has more than enough material for Rip. He might not even get to all of this until the next marking period or maybe for next year’s students. Tiffi tells her that she’s going to meet with Rip tomorrow if she wants to join her and she can give him all that she found online.
Sounds like a plan!
