‘Stopping Extinction in Its Tracks

The most unique feature of Earth is the existence of life, and the most extraordinary feature of life is its diversity. Every species alive today is a survivor against impossibly long odds - a product of millions of years of chance and change. A wellspring of wonder and resources. The very air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the food that we eat, all come from biodiversity. Put simply, you and I would not survive without biodiversity.

But today our planet’s animal and plant species are under more pressure than ever before, with an increasing number on the brink of extinction. Scientists have called this unprecedented loss of species the Sixth Mass Extinction. The last mass extinction event marked the end of the dinosaurs.

Evidence is mounting that extinctions are altering key processes important to the productivity and sustainability of Earth’s ecosystems. As species disappear we lose both known and unknown benefits they provide. For instance, new research indicates that loss of biodiversity can release prominent carriers of human disease agents from predation and competition - a direct threat to us.

Recognizing the fundamental role that species play in maintaining our ecosystems, and the intrinsic value inherent in each and every species, we are committed to protecting species from the tiniest salamander in Colombia to the most majestic of elephants in Africa.’ (Source)

Tiffi is just not satisfied on how to stop extinction. There must be more articles on this, so she continues her search.

Let’s continue - What is the point of saving endangered species?

Start at the beginning - The ecosystem and how it relates to endangered species
