Do Dream Catchers Scientifically Work?

‘The only documented scientific study on dream catchers conducted was by Philip Zimbardo who is a professor from Stanford University but the study was aimed more towards the dreams and night terrors themselves but did have the use of dream catchers to see if they prevent the dreams. He did record a reduction in bad dreams when his participants did use dream catchers when they slept. However the placebo effect around dream catchers has been proven which Harvard done an amazing study on the placebo effect.

How are dream catchers meant to work - So the basic legend of the dream catcher and how they work is very simple in fact. They were modelled after a spiders web, most dream catchers also have a stone in the middle which is meant to resemble a spider and also feathers which is used when a good dream is caught on the dream catcher to leak the dream down onto the persons head who is sleeping below so they still have good dreams. The bad dreams are trapped forever on the web and do not effect the person sleeping. However if the dream catcher is damaged then the chances are that the dream will either be released into the world again or the person dreaming will begin to be effected from nightmares once again. There is no proper way to use dream catchers, you just hang them up and sleep underneath them.

What you should note is that regardless of if there is scientific proof that dream catchers do work, they have been around for over 1000 years and people still use them to this day must be some proof that they do work to prevent bad dreams.’ (Source)
