I would always, always skip purple in the old-style box because of the lack of really good levels. And this task requires winning levels, unlike the old box, so maybe not a glitch, but a new task added for variety.

I saw it too. Interestingly, the only color collection task that allowed old levels I have seen was also collecting purple. It came up in both of my games, but only once. Interestingly, my level still has chocolate despite the latest update. The change in fish behavior made this level worse. Fish no longer reliably target the cakes, even though they can occasionally do that. Removing the cakes quickly would facilitate clearing the board, but it's no longer possible.
