What are the new candies that help you earn gifts? Is this a feature for a limited time?

I have gotten the 180 twice now, but not received anything. Then it shows a count down for 8 hours - what does it mean? what do I do with it to collect the prizes?

I believe it means you have 8 hours left to collect the required candies and collect your gifts.
