Candy Crush "Hard Level" Icon Difference

A fews weeks ago, after an update, I noticed a difference in the level/board icons on the map. There are now raised, almost octagon looking icons, instead of the usual ovals. They range in height and color ( blue, green, purple) and they are only on specific levels/boards (as opposed to all the levels/boards) 

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with these? Is it just a new way of labeling the more difficult levels? I'm curious as to why certain levels have the usual ovals and others have these new, raised blocks.

Hey Nic,

I´d say it´s based on statistics. If a lot of players are struggling on a specific level, they can use that feature to warn future players for that sort of levels.

Anyhow, without a doubt it´s meant to make our Candy crushing lives easier I´d say.
