Why isn't my email private?

I got an email from someone thanking me for welcoming them to the community. I didn't welcome anyone and why does someone I don't know have my personal email? How do I keep my email private, to be used only by a tech support person if I have a question?

how can email be private? Don’t reveal ur email here... if need... only to private support team

use private msg function

@Sue_Schless This will be an automated mail welcoming you to the community when you signed up. Nobody email address would would be shared with any members. Community team warn anybody revealing there email and would also mask this information as its there own private data.
