Lives received from Facebook friends are notifications sent in Facebook. They're held in your profile and delivered into the game once per notification.
This means that if you update Facebook, change your profile, reinstall the Facebook app or even update its app software, those Facebook notifications may get lost, as they've been delivered and cleared from the queue. While it is possible to store in-game messages from your friends, due to these factors outside our control, we cannot guarantee that they will remain on your device indefinitely.
Lives can also be lost through an update to the game, your own device or by restarting your device, which clears a certain amount of memory, depending on your device. We therefore recommend limiting the number of messages and lives that you save; a full mailbox can also affect the functionality of the game.

Please note that the boosters and lives are saved to your device and not the game data, so you can use them when offline too. This does mean that any updates, crashes or device changes can cause these items to be lost. For this reason, we do not recommend storing too many of the won boosters as these can indeed be lost unlike Gold Bars.

All Lives And Boosters Are Saved On Your Own Storage Device. Its Not Saved Online Anywhere. And This Feature Of Lives Notifications From Facebook Is Staying Only Once When You Reinstall Or Update It's Get Lost.

May I know whether you have restart your device after you have update your game app? If you haven't please log out from your game again, restart your device, log back in to the game and account and play a level. Hopefully, you'll be able to see more of your friends in your usual friends list.
As for the missing lives, I would re-quote the following as highlighted by Ms Kiara where it stated that lives can be lost through and update to the game/own device or by restarting your device.
