And the suggestion to go backwards to collect boosters... who wants to play old levels over and over and over???

Actually the first place I looked for hints was Youtube. What I found was almost all the vids were playing older easier versions that and were of no help to solving the newer "improved" versions of levels we struggle with now. I did find one tutorial of the newer version, and basically, you needed to have good strategy, plan ahead, and pray for multiple winning lottery tickets in the form of cascading color bombs. I suspect that tutorial was recorded multiple times before the player finally hit the jackpot with the cascading candies and managed to complete the level. I can do that too, but its no fun at all doing 20 to 40 retries and multiple days just to complete a level, then have the same experience 3 to 5 levels later, ad nauseum...
