True though in some episodes I played it wasn't easy as after I've seen a level with reds I seen some without it. But if the first three ones have Red, then you have the chance to finish it within those.

Red in new levels is easy because you need fewer to collect. I had never skipped it except in one case because I was done with the new levels for the recent gameplay. You can still close a box by using old levels only but you need to either find three special candy collection tasks or a combination of these and a booster…

Special Candy Collections count on old levels but the color collection with new level wins not on old levels, however.

You can change task to see if you get a special candy collection. Should you have passed 9563, replay it for those tasks (Striped, Wrapped and Color Bomb collections) and leave the new level wins tasks for the new levels. That's how I managed to close 3 such boxes today.
