Does everyone else find this way of playing tedious and pointless. If I can't really get stuck in to a level until I pass I am increasingly losing interest in playing at all. I don't understand the reasoning behind this change.

I agree, it is impossible to progress if you can't play a level over and over. If the only answer is to buy lives that means I will be quitting the game altogether.

I think I will probably stop playing this game. The limited time it's possible to play just doesn't seem worth bothering with.
