My best tip is to not pay to much attention to what happens. I know that sounds backwards, BUT sometimes the reason I can't clear a level is because I plan too much and get stuck in that plan, which usually eats moves and/or lets my mind ignore a bomb f.ex. and mostly always blinds me from a better solution. This isn't valid anymore, as in the newest game you create a lot of jelly fish when matching w a color bomb no matter what :)

On levels where the goal is to score a certain amount, it can be smart to save special candies on the board. When you run out of moves, they will activate, just like when you win a game normally. That extra boost in the end might just put you over the goal score.
