I am stuck at level 45 because friends requests are not being received.

I  sent several requests to my friend and only one got through and I received 1 out of 3 lives needed. Today my friend sent another reply and after I opened the message the life did not register as the second life needed. I don't know how to get through this barrier.

    I have now received two lives from a friend but when I click the accept button the lives are not added to the game so I cannot move on to next level
