Changed levels, changed game

Hi @candysodacrusher , I'll do my best to try!

First, I would like to confirm that the unpredictability of the game is indeed true. Regarding the randomness of the rewards, the reason behind it is because now rewards are pulled from a pool, which is why you don't know what you are going to get. This wasn't any evil plot from King, before somebody draws that conclusion, but based on the element of surprising the players. However, I am noticing that some rewards are better than others, which leads to frustration rather than surprise when the reward you get from that pool is not the one you wanted the most.

Regarding teams, it is indeed absolutely random (besides the active or inactive element that I explained for Soda Squad). Mr Toffee's Fair and the Soda Squad are two brand new team features and there is a lot that can be done regarding them. There is currently very little balancing around the team element of it, and it's mainly random (although it takes into consideration low level players vs high level players). I know you are all trying to find patterns in your teams (and don't get me wrong, I love the passion and level of scrutiny you guys put) but the truth is that there isn't much to dig into there, for now, as we are just starting these features and need to improve them on the way.

Your feedback on how it feels to play the levels is of great value as well, so thank you for that and I encourage you all to keep discussing it and sharing your thoughts with us.

Thank you @Xarly for the response.

As for the random rewards, I don’t think it is an evil plot, but I do wish I’d paid more attention when we were learning about Skinner in psychology class.  😁

Quarterly earnings report for Activision stock was released August 8.  Been reading through some of the news relating to that and found two interesting pieces of info to share.  The first is a comment that I believe related to some of the changes in the game we’ve seen in the past few months, and the second is the report on MAUs (monthly active users) during the second quarter.

“Our second quarter results exceeded our prior outlook for both revenue and earnings per share,” said Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard. “In the first half of 2019 we have prioritized investments in our key franchises and, beginning in the second half of this year our audiences will have a chance to see and experience the initial results of these efforts.”

In the second quarter, Activision had 37 million monthly active users, Blizzard had 32 million, and King had 258 million. That’s a drop from three months earlier. In the first quarter, Activision had 41 million monthly active users, Blizzard had 32 million, and King had 272 million.

What I can't understand is that there are so many variations of 1 game. First everyone had Quests and then new features. Some got them, others didn't. Some may watch advertisements to get an extra booster or extra attempts for a level, others not. Now Rainbow Road has changed too; you will not receive extra boosters if you have a streak of 6 gold pins in a row. The rewards you receive with MTF or Squad are in no way comparable to the Quests. I understand very well that you are developing new challenges in a game but why not together with the old things. You then have the same options for each player to play a game. When it is decided to continue with the new features, take everyone's old path, such as Quests. Now there are so many differences that not everyone can play the same way. If you only have team games, no more Quests, but someone else still has this, it frustrates many people. You do not really have opportunities to get free boosters. This is possible with Quests, watching ads and with the earlier Rainbow Road. Sorry to keep repeating, I'm pretty frustrated.

The point of the game, as it is now, is to frustrate you, to frustrate you into buying boosters.

The game is a scam, Activision need to recoup the 6 billion they paid for it.

    A good read.....

@Yosca totally agree!  And so many of the new changes are more cosmetic than meaningful.

Hi! As a developer in the Soda team, I just wanted to thank you all for taking the time to write such well-formulated and extensive comments! Please keep them coming!  I'm not able to address all of your feedback right now, I just wanted to assure you that the developers are listening and reading the forum even if we rarely expose ourselves. ;) Xarly and his colleagues are a great help too, they do talk to us a lot about your concerns.

PS, we're developers but also players and people at the same time. And I don't think we're more than average level of evil. ;) ;) ;)

    Buglady, you’re definitely not evil.
You're just under orders from your greedy paymasters, we get that. Nobody blames the devs for ruining this game and making it all about the ££££s, that’s Activision.
    You're just a puppet, a blameless one.

@Buglady Nice to know you  :) I hope you can explain something to me. Why has it been decided that usually only time boosters are given? Many have lost the Quests and therefore we no longer have the possibility to save boosters. This makes the game less fun, because the higher the levels, the harder they are. Is it an option to at least save the time boosters? I have always played Soda with great pleasure but lately with the removal of the Quests and the new features in which you depend on your fellow players, the fun is gone.

    Hi @Yosca!
I wasn't involved in that particular decision so I don't have the answer for it but I can try to ask around a bit. I know that saving timed booster is a suggestions that's been brought up before so maybe it can be reality in the future.

For my personal experience playing Soda, I try to stack boosters by always using the (free) Mystery machine when available + fulfilling my daily tasks in Mr. Toffee's Fair. I believe that the old quests maybe were seen as more rewarding because players could win them even without actively trying sometimes, getting at least some irregular booster income. Mr. Toffee's Fair requires more involvement from the player, it's true. This is just my personal theories that I picked up from interviewing players.

@Buglady Thanks for responding. What’s the Mystery machine? Never had this and I play Soda many years. And Social bingo? Don’t have it or do you mean Mr Toffee Fair?  With that you sometimes win a free booster but you depend on fellow players who are often not very active or just block. I am a very active player, playing in the highest levels but I am as good as through my free boosters that I could earn with Quests. So nothing to stock  :(

I have seen Mr Toffee referred to as social bingo a few times and  the mystery machine is the free booster every 48 hours. It used to be on the main screen as a candy machine now you have to go to the purchase area and select free booster.
