Hi and welcome to the community. Mostly you have to buy them although from time to time there are events in the game which allow us to earn them. The other way is you can take part in any of the contests in the Pet community (Link is in my signature) and you have chances to win gold too from these 😉

I will ask Lynette to look at this and see if she has a newer video. Some levels are just like that. You find them in all games, but we don't know how many times players have played it before passing. It was on the list to be looked at, but we can request it again.
