It could be a couple of things, either your game app on tablet is missing an updates or either game is failing to sync to Facebook or Kingdom depending which you use. If you can't see any updates available then try troubleshooting your connection in game.

When sending request for lives, are you selecting friends in the second tab "Candy Friends" or are you sending requests from the first tab labeled "All Friends"?

If you tap on the notification in FB, though it opens the game app (as you can't play through FB on mobile and tablet) it will have been added to your game on FB. Avoid tapping on the notification in Facebook or you can do this as suggested by a moderator previously, this way you won't get notifications in your FB feed:…

Yeah when playing through a browser it's always been that way, any messages received will only be there for that session. If you close the game and didn't accept the messages, they will be gone. It's why I always accept any messages I have before finishing playing when on PC, that way at least my friends who sent me lives…

If you go to your inbox and tap on the trophy icon at the top, you should see the details for the event by tapping on "info". It should say on the next page how many you've collected.
