This is a very known crate that has been introduced with crash bandicoot 3 warped. The crate has white sides that pass from a content to another.
Generally, here are the different cycle: Normal -> fruits -> Life crate / Normal -> TNT -> Nitro / Aku Aku -> fruits -> TNT
This would be a very cool addition to the game, you could thing even about other association like containing material or trophies since this game doesn't have lifes.

To be honest I think it wouldn't be very good im this Type of game, since you can't control your run speed and unless they are programmed to be truly RNG you'd always get the Same Reward from the Same Crate (since it's Cycle would always be the Same).
And if you get blown up because the Slot Crate was programmed to cycle one last time shortly before you can smash it, it would really suck.
