There are 17 atom stone in road to ruin. My guess is that sometimes you are using a skin that gives 10% extra on atom stones and that is giving you the 18.
I don't have any skins that give a bonus on atom stones... I've been using the martial arts Crash and the pizza Crash. I still get 17 sometimes, 18 sometimes. I guess I'll have to pay more attention when I'm running and figure it out.
Nope. The game sometimes gives an extra atom stone. The same thing happens to me, just like in Turtle woods where sometimes i get 57 instead of 56 glow barks
I didnt had that bug on Road To Ruin but with a few maps, i had that bug like the map The Great Gate. Sometimes they just gave extra 1 Glowmatoes in that map and i just realize, there are two of them stuck at a box. So, maybe that 1 Atom Stone crate was stuck at one of the Atom Stone crate that total just added 2 of them
If Road to Ruins, there are total 17 Atom Stones, if you get another Atom Stone that was a bug. Even though it seems you got extra one, but you actual got exactly 17 atom stone, instead of 18 atom stones.

E.g., when turning left for Fizzle Flakes, there are two directions either stay ground or go down.
If you stay on the ground, you miss one atom stone and one Fizzle Flakes.
If you go down, you miss one atom stone.

But in that case, the rolling boulders are to blame, not really a bug but a map building problem.
But the weird thing is that it doesn't happen with the first Atom Stone you meet at the entrance to the Bellow Peppers' path.
