It gives you the chance to win two lives. If you win the level on the life it gives you, you will win the two lives. If you lose, you get the timed boosters, but no lives.

For me, it would be finding out if the lives I send my friends really get to them. I have seen too many complaints about lives not being received and since my Candy Crush friends are all over the world and I don't know any of them personally, it would be nice to know that they actually do get the lives I send.

You can't. There is no money to be made playing Candy Crush, it is just a free game to be played for fun.
