I don't remember ever seeing that particular feature in my game. I think the Superstars here have mentioned that different players get different features. Hopefully it will even out and next time you will have this, and your friend not. =)

Just to check: are you maybe using diagonal moves? Because each of those counts as two. 

Are you by any chance one of the players who has been chosen to try the new Diagonal Moves? Each such move counts as two so that could be the reason.
