Maybe King confused the Elite version with the crappy new Mini Royale version? Winning anything from that one seems to be pointless (5 gold, 6 gold, etc). The Elite Challenge is always on the last tier in my main game, so I wouldn't know if progressing through all tiers in a day is possible.

Right, @Storm15. But the distinction I was pointing out above is 2 different versions of the same level existing at the same time (now). With the YouTube vids, I'm aware it's normal to see players posting a level version from now that's different from a level version of the past.
