Petopia causing my game to crash.

What it comes down to is that my petopia level rose to level 2 somehow, but I have no pets in my town. The game forces me to try out the paramedic hat on a pet, but since there are no pets in the town as soon as I tap on "assign" it crashes. There is no way for me to skip this, and as far as I can see there is no way to get my game/account ID.
Am I just not going to be able to play until this event ends in, what I assume will be, a couple weeks?
