One day I was playing Pet Rescue with no problems, there was a Windows Update and the following day PRS won't download properly and I can no longer play.

Could you tell me which version of windows you have, if you go into settings then updates, and check recent updates it will tell you which version you have. If you have windows 10, the latest is 1803.
