To give more context, the Friends List is composed for each player depending on: current members in the Club, Facebook friends (if you are connected via Facebook and have friends who are actively playing) and players around the same level in the game.
Once you've added some friends (remember: you can only add up to 20!), go to the friends tab, just at the bottom, next to the main page that shows your map. Here you will see the friends that have accepted (or not) your request. If any of them has accepted your request, now you'll be able to request lives or help with a level!
