Have you backed up your device recently, via iTunes or your PC? I don't think its 100% but if you have maybe your progress is saved there. Did you connect to the Kingdom in the games (the 3 crowns)

Do you mean how do you redeem them in the actual game? Normally when you open the game they appear in your little inbox that pops up, do you not get that? I hope that this is what you mean?

I noticed that as well, there's nothing on the pre-level screen. I guess you need to get a certain score but theres nothing to say what it is. I'm happy if I get 1 star and defeat the little rascal, haha.

So when you first open the game, you get the pop up with your messages, then you use your normal lives and the inbox isn't there? Is this what you mean?

If your inbox is full then you will only get beans from your friends, even if it says they sent you a life originally. This is just part of the game.

Do you have a full 5 lives? If so, then anything that is sent to you, even if it says its a life, will be magic beans. This is a normal part of the game.

I think at the moment its just for show, for bragging rights with your friends. Maybe King will bring in some rewards, who knows. For now I'm just checking which of my friends are slacking in the game and those who I'm beating, haha.
