The very reason the game gets you to connect to either Facebook or Kingdom is so that you're progress can be backed up and saved. If you don't connect to either then your progress is not backed up anywhere, if there's no back then there's no restoration.

As long as you actively connected your game to either Facebook previously, your progress will be saved and synced to it. If you did, when you reconnect to that account in the game again, the progress from the point where it was last synced will come up. Updating the app will not affect your progress as it's saved to…

I think there's currently an issue with it not awarding the companions, it's being looked into though so keep an eye hear for any updates on the situation.
