I always write the tag the way I did it now (@ sign + name, no spaces, and bold).
I have never seen the drop-down menu (I have been communicating on the forum for the second year already)
But always the forum members whom I invited to the discussion received notifications about the tag and came to the topic, answered my questions and requests.
You can see that in that thread I also indicated the tag with your name.
Maybe the problem arose because the idea was first closed, then reopened?
I am at a loss. This is an incomprehensible situation for me.
After all, when I published a large list of tags, other players appeared in the topic.

For almost 1.5 years, I have been addressing players without drop-down lists in forum topics.
And we normally found each other in the topics of the forum.
And suddenly there was a problem))).
If the rules have changed now, it means to me that the forum technically complicates my actions in the forum environment.
This is of course a deterioration.
But I do not see this as a problem for me personally. I somehow lived here for 1.5 years without it. And then everything will be fine. There are other ways to contact players if I really need it.

I would like to answer you. In all fairness there are common problems with notifications no matter how you write it. Honestly, that's mine. Even this procedure has now changed a bit than it was at first, that's true. Unfortunately, it is best to increase this possibility. You can also take the quote, that works too. The other variant is only private. I don't see any more possibilities to contact these players. You can decide for yourself how you want to do it.
