October 13 โ World Thrombosis Day

I had a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) in 2008 after falling down the stairs and breaking my ankle and leg, it was an open fracture so i was rushed to hospital. A few days after the operation i had the most awful ache in my calf, i had an idea what it was and voiced my concerns to the Dr when he came on rounds, he said they'd keep an eye on it. After 7 days in hospital i was discharged, but still with that awful ache in my calf. I was worried because by now i convinced myself it was a DVT but no one was listening to me.
After a week of being at home i was taken back in with an infection in the joint, that was another 5 days stay in hospital, and only then did they listen to me and take me for a scan. I was right, i had a DVT. I was lucky nothing fatal happened to me during those 2 weeks, because as stated in the OP, they're very dangerous. I was started on blood thinners straight away, it took 4 months to clear it. I'll never forget that awful ache though, it was like having the worst toothache you could ever imagine, but in the leg!
