🤲 October 15th - International Hand Washing Day 🧼💧

The International Hand Washing Day was launched by the World Health Organization - WHO and takes place annually on October 15th; it was first committed in 2008.

October 15th is International Handwashing Day

On the occasion of International Hand Washing Day on 15 October, Charlotte Schneidewind-Hartnagel (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) recalled the great importance of hand hygiene in the corona crisis. "Hand washing should have been a matter of course for a long time, because even before the corona pandemic, regular and proper hand washing prevented the spread of infectious diseases," said the politician. "Corona has increased the need for frequent and correct hand washing – for one's own protection and that of others."

"We use our hands in countless activities and touch each other hundreds of times a day in the face," said the MP from the constituency of Odenwald-Tauber. "Unfortunately, we are also paving the way for pathogens to enter our bodies." In Corona times, hand washing is one of the most effective ways to combat the spread of the virus. Schneidewind-Hartnagel underlined the importance of the so-called AHA formula: keep your distance, pay attention to hygiene and wear an everyday mask. In addition to washing hands, hygiene measures also include coughing and sneezing into the crook of the arm.

The World Health Organization (WHO) first proclaimed International Hand Washing Day in 2008. It takes place annually on 15 October. She recommends getting your hands wet under running, pleasantly warm water and then soaping them completely with enough soap. Subsequently, the finger spaces, the fingertips and the thumbs must be thoroughly cleaned. Proper hand washing takes at least 20 seconds. After that, they should be rinsed under running water and thoroughly dried.

"Thorough hand washing is lived infection protection – and this must also be possible outside your own four walls," said Schneidewind-Hartnagel. She called for the establishment of more public, clean toilets with filled soap dispensers and disinfectants.

Please always remember to wash your hands! It is very important!!!
