I am unique because - I am a U.S. Army Veteran that served during Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia. I seen the scud missile that hit the barracks in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia on February 25, 1991. I was putting the chain on the steering wheel to lock it with the padlock as we do for all military vehicles when I seen the scud missile fly over my head. I was in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, not far from Al Khobar. I arrived on Halloween in 1990 and didn't leave until May of 1991. I was in a Battalion. I was at that barracks just 2 days prior as I drove my Company Commander there to chat with some of his friends from that unit.
I am unique because - I worked for 22 1/2 years in mens prisons. I am a 5'2", 112 lb female. I started out working at a Maximum prison, quit there after I met my husband at the Corrections Academy. I ended up going back to the Academy and went to work at a Work Camp, but I had to work at another Maximum facility while waiting for the newly built work camp to open up. After a couple of years, my superintendent asked me if I would go work at the Super-Max prison. Of course I told him yes. Started out in the mail room - ugh. So the only way I could get out of there was to sign up for the Tactial Team (cell extractions, writ teams, transfer team, ect...). I was on TACT until I transfered to a Medium prison since the Super-Max was set to close in a few months. I did work on the final execution team at the Super-Max that was done in my former state. I retired as a Corrections Sergeant at the age of 55 (I'm 61 now) with a very nice pension. Believe me, I seen way more than I cared to while working there......
I lost my middle son 12 days before his 21st birthday in 2006. I lost my dad 12 days before his 76th birthday in 2013. Both were after family group photos. We will never take family group photos again.
