Well I live in the USA and my TV is on right now. Today is election day and it's going to be a day that goes down in history. I think that it will make the history list higher up than the pandemic.

    Hi @KimElston

    My country is Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Once entered in this discussion it won't stop there...

Let's start off by talking about the shape and it's exact location.

Italy,ย countryย of south-centralย Europe, occupying a peninsula that juts deep into theย Mediterranean Sea.ย Italyย comprisesย some of the most varied and scenic landscapes onย Earthย and is often described as a country shaped like a boot. At its broad top stand theย Alps, which are among the worldโ€™s most rugged mountains. Italyโ€™s highest points are alongย Monte Rosa, which peaks inย Switzerland, and alongย Mont Blanc, which peaks inย France. The western Alps overlook a landscape ofย Alpine lakesย and glacier-carved valleys that stretch down to theย Po Riverย and theย Piedmont.ย Tuscany, to the south of the cisalpine region, is perhaps the countryโ€™s best-known region. From the central Alps, running down the length of the country, radiates the tallย Apennine Range, which widens near Rome to cover nearly the entire width of the Italian peninsula. South of Rome the Apennines narrow and are flanked by two wide coastal plains, one facing theย Tyrrhenian Seaย and the other theย Adriatic Sea. Much of the lower Apennine chain is near-wilderness, hosting a wide range of species rarely seen elsewhere in western Europe, such as wild boars, wolves, asps, and bears. The southern Apennines are also tectonically unstable, with several active volcanoes, includingย Vesuvius, which from time to time belches ash and steam into the air above Naples and its island-strewn bay. At the bottom of the country, in theย Mediterranean Sea, lie the islands ofย Sicilyย andย Sardinia.

Then let's talk about the history of this beautiful country.

Italyโ€™s political geography has been conditioned by this rugged landscape. With few direct roads between them, and with passage from one point to another traditionally difficult, Italyโ€™s towns and cities have a history of self-sufficiency, independence, and mutual mistrust. Visitors today remark on how unlike one town is from the next, on the marked differences inย cuisineย andย dialect, and on the many subtle divergences that make Italy seem less a single nation than a collection of culturally related points in an uncommonly pleasing setting.

Across a span of more than 3,000 years, Italian history has been marked by episodes of temporary unification and long separation, of intercommunal strife and failed empires. At peace for more than half a century now, Italyโ€™s inhabitants enjoy a highย standard of livingย and a highly developedย culture.

Though its archaeological record stretches back tens of thousands of years, Italian history begins with theย Etruscans, an ancient civilization that rose between the Arno and Tiber rivers. The Etruscans were supplanted in the 3rd centuryย BCEย by theย Romans, who soon became the chief power in the Mediterranean world and whose empire stretched fromย Indiaย to Scotland by the 2nd centuryย CE. That empire was rarely secure, not only because of the unwillingness of conquered peoples to stay conquered but also because of power struggles between competing Roman political factions, military leaders, families, ethnic groups, and religions. Theย Roman Empireย fell in the 5th centuryย CEย after a succession ofย barbarian invasionsย through which Huns, Lombards, Ostrogoths, and Franksโ€”mostly previous subjects of Romeโ€”seized portions of Italy. Rule devolved to the level of the city-state, although the Normans succeeded in establishing a modest empire in southern Italy and Sicily in the 11th century. Many of those city-states flourished during theย Renaissanceย era, a time marked by significantย intellectual, artistic, and technological advances but also by savage warfare between states loyal to theย popeย and those loyal to theย Holy Roman Empire.

Happy reading there's a lot more but here's a good start off!

Hi @KimElston and @Diamond Lim , nice topic, thanks for the tag.

I live in Canada but I was born in the Azores, Portugal. Canada is such a big country with lots to see and amazing people. Sometimes it is very cold here ๐Ÿ˜‰ Portugal is a sunny country and the Azores is a group of very small islands in the middle of the Atlantic North. very different places, as you can see, but both amazing places to live in!

of course I LOVE MY INDIA @pearl_chetna

    agree with you @sarma_palash123 .

"Civilizations have arisen in other parts of the world. In ancient and modern times, wonderful ideas have been carried forward from one race to another...But mark you, my friends, it has been always with the blast of war trumpets and the march of embattled cohorts. Each idea had to be soaked in a deluge of blood..... Each word of power had to be followed by the groans of millions, by the wails of orphans, by the tears of widows. This, many other nations have taught; but India for thousands of years peacefully existed. Here activity prevailed when even Greece did not exist... Even earlier, when history has no record, and tradition dares not peer into the gloom of that intense past, even from until now, ideas after ideas have marched out from her, but every word has been spoken with a blessing behind it and peace before it. We, of all nations of the world, have never been a conquering race, and that blessing is on our head, and therefore we live....!"

    - Swami Vivekanand (Indian Philosopher)

    and most important ๐Ÿ‘‡

India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border."

few words can't describe about my country .

I am proud of myself to be an Indian.

thanks for tagging me dear @pearl_chetna
