Ranking first in the Qualifier does not make you eligible for 250 gold bars. As Christine mentioned, the tournament consists of three rounds. You need to win both the Knockout round and the Final to receive the prize. The info screen says: 250 gold to be won in the Final!

The fact that you are seeing someone in your Weekly Contest doesn't necessarily mean that they are seeing you in their Weekly Contest (that's why we are asking each other). Has anyone else lost their Weekly Contest widget? I lost it, and since I have no events tab, I can only see the Weekly Contest briefly when playing new levels. When I'm not playing, I don't even know what's happening in there. And I lost the ability to skip animations. And the tournament 'Zzz…'
