It took forever to beat this level. I did, switched to another screen to check mail while all the (dopey) graphics did their thing. Then when I go back... Still sending me to 85.

If you minimize the game and load another app means that the game pauses and never sends the complete signal back. On some phone models the ram allocated to the game also gets recycled so that you'll have to load the game when you maximize the tab.
I suggest you let the level fully complete - once the next level is shown means that you progress has been saved.

What is going on with level 235. Supposed to collect orange, but no orange, and as soon as you drop to next level, NOTHING!! Literally nothing, to allow you to continue playing.
