I have received the Dig Up Treasure card an additional three times since my original post. However, the chest still refuses to light up.

I have since built and have two additional chests that will not open, both of them the one-item blue chests. I have a feeling this Petopia is not done fooling around.

Another Petopia, another sparkling purple & gold chest that cannot be selected, let alone opened. Gotta see if I break the Halloween record of five such chests.
