I'm Binky Melnik, a software quality assurance engineer AKA a bug hunter.
I spent ten years at Apple doing it during Steve Jobs's first reign. I'm also a writer, and my best work was in two of the world's most popular magazines.
I ran forums for 27 years, first for CompuServe and later ran my own.
I was on the team that created the software for America Online (later known as AOL). (Sorry about that, but at least it introduced the world to the concept of email.)
Afterwards, I worked on the team which created HyperCard; my role was the SQA engineer for the programming language it used. When Tim Berners-Lee saw it, he took one of the features of HyperCard and created the web. This is prolly the accomplishment of which I'm most proud.
I am also a crazed fan of MMA. (Yes, it's real; the blood, swelling, and broken bones aren't, unfortunately for the fighters, "special effects.")
I've played Candy Crush Saga for more than two years (apparently; I learned this when I logged into these forums and received a badge for it) and am currently working on level 2626. I'm just about at the end of the line, though, as these days (hell, for most of the last 720 days) the game requires much, *much* more luck than skill. A level that gives me 12 moves to clear 72 jellies is impossible unless I luck out and get a good layout.
(If I wanted to play games of chance, I'd download "casino" apps. At least they offer actual money for being lucky; CCS offers at most a couple of gold bars. Pfft.)
I was born and raised in the Berkshires in Massachusetts, and now live in New York City after having spent 15 years in northern California (San Francisco and Silicon Valley). I'm come pretty far for a farmer's daughter with no education beyond high school.
