You should have had them in the first round. They are activated by pressing on the flashing x10 circle on the right. If you don't see them maybe you already used all of them in earlier rounds?

Yes, I read it the same. There was no cheating involved in the actual comment, but it suggests she was doing some clever timing of events to coincide.
