The best, easiest, and already developed way for us to preview the game board is the one King just removed - allowing us to back out of a bad board without losing lives and boosters. No reason to reinvent the wheel here.

I think this is a truly awful "fix" to a problem that didn't exist for anyone other than the accountants and top dogs at King.
