Why am I missing lives from my game friends again?

I've been losing lives sent by my friends for several weeks now. Last night I went to bed with 10lives available that i have not accessed, but when I woke up this morning I'm down to ONE! I've lost as many as 13 - that was last week, but usually it's the 5 I leave at night that I lose. WHY is this happening? and will I EVER get those lives back??
