Why can't I get more shot on the Pirate ship than the start shots. I cleared like 15 levels and not

Why can't I get more shot on the Pirate ship than the start shots.  I cleared like 15 levels and not a single shot is credited to me but my opponent can sink all my ships?  How is this fair?

You might have the original version of Shipmates in your game. 🙂

Pins to fire your cannon are provided by your crew members when they pass new levels.
