Though I am signed into my account - the same one where I redeemed my $50.00 gift card - when I try to make an in app purchase, myGoogle play balance shows $0.00. HELP PLEASE

I'm not sure whether you can use that gift card to purchase in-app items. You may visit this site outside of King for more details on how to use the Google Play gift card.
Ideally, you should contact Google Play customer support for missing balance. If they re-direct you back to King, then please email your issue to King Support team here.

- close session. - clear cache - reboot device - log in.
